Launching the Our Parents’ Bones Campaign
I am excited to announce the launch of the Our Parents’ Bones campaign by the Mauricio Aquino Foundation, and I wanted you to be the first to know.
The mission of the Mauricio Aquino Foundation is the resolution of the forced disappearances, the eradication of institutional impunity and the building of democratic institutions based on truth and reconciliation in El Salvador. Our Parents’ Bones is the inaugural project of the Foundation.
The Our Parents’ Bones campaign is an international campaign led by the surviving children of those women and men who were disappeared by the military and para-military “death squads” in the Salvadoran Civil War.
This is our quest to find the remains of our parents, our family members and our friends. Our campaign will work with organizations in El Salvador whose members also include relatives of disappeared Salvadorans and connect them with young people in America who have their own stories to share. Through our collective efforts and organizing power, we hope to create a community of survivors as a first step. Ultimately, we seek the remains of our parents and loved ones to give them a sacred burial and to bring healing and closure to our lives.
If you were affected by the Salvadoran Civil War, please share your story with us. This campaign is about bringing the survivors together, and through the power of our stories, our pictures and our collective power to achieve justice and closure.
We want to hear your story, but we also need your help to get this campaign started on the right foot. Please make a tax deductible donation to the Mauricio Aquino Foundation to support our campaign here.
